Hi guys,

I noticed that some of the photos in my Pacific build thread are not showing. What I have found is that the photo URL of the non working links does not have the dash between lister and engine?
When did this change, and do I need to go back and edit all the posts with non working links?

Thanks Dave

Yes, I've noticed the same thing.  I pointed it out to Ade and he said he'd try to take a look at it.  It is a systemic thing.  I think the domain name of the lister engine coppermine site changed a few years ago and Ade did something to the forum software to make that change transparent.  I think with one of the recent(ish) updates that fix may have been lost.

But I don't really know.  I'm kinda guessing.

I hope it canbe fixed, because I have many old threads with thousands of pictures that would have to be changed.  :o

Thanks Kim,

I have been going through my Pacific build and fixing all the lister-engine issues. The bigger task is there are a lot of photos that reside on the Photo Bucket site. I finally was able to get back into that site, (what a pain that was) to see what I had out there.
I will migrate all the photos for the Pacific build over to copper mine and maybe some of the others too. My plan is to completely dump Photo Bucket sometime between now and February when the yearly bill comes due.

The reason I went down this rabbit hole is that my plan is to finish the Pacific this winter/spring, after how many years?  And post the progress in the Pacific build thread. I didn't realize how messed up all the photos were, and no one ever said anything.
My goal now that I'm retired is to finish some or all of these unfinished projects hanging around my shop. Five this year, so far I'm doing pretty good!

Does anybody know if it there is the option on MEM to insert a photo that was attached to the post into the thread text? Years ago on other forums I used to use photobucket but stopped after having issues similar to what you guys are now having. After that I started to attach directly, and insert into the text.

Hi - sorry for the delay replying here.

Yeah, the listerengine.com domain (which I do not control) has gone dormant - the people who own it have failed to renew it (like they do every year), so now we're on the backup domain lister-engine.com (which I DO control).

This does mean that anyone who uses Coppermine will now have broken links.  Since that's a mega pain in the arse to fix, I'll do a DB script to do it for you, just as soon as I can find the time to do so.

Apologies!

Going forward, it would be better to use the lister-engine.com address, as that will ALWAYS point to the correct location. I'll check the Coppermine config to see if I need to change anything there.

No, not as far as I know, you need to acquire a valid url from where your image is stored, this needs to be from some sort of photo hosting site. I use Copper Mine becasue it is owned by Ade and no charge to forum members. Thanks Ade!
After you have the URL then you can paste it into your text. There is one more step to make it work, you need to add HTML tags to each end of the URL, see attached image.
This is the only way that I know of to add photos inline of your post.

I think there is, trying it here. I've attached a file to this post. Then, viewing that post, I'll right click on the attachment, then edit the post, and paste it inline in the text. Here goes...

Okay, I right clicked on the thumbnail of the attached image, selected 'copy link',  clicked on the post to modify it, and am putting it in as an image:
Seems to have worked here...

I saw someone else post this method a litle while back. It takes an extra edit on the post, but it works!

There are times that it would be nice to pop a quick photo into a post, without going through the work of uploading to a photo hosting site.
I may use this in the future.

There is an SMF plug-in which makes it a bit easier to insert images inline, but in the meantime, Chris' method will work (and is, to my knowledge, the only way to host the images inside Mem AND show them inline).

I've been looking for a sensible alternative to Coppermine that we can use here, since Coppermine seems to be semi-abandoned these days (last update was 2024, and that was after a 6 year period with no updates...); but so far, I've yet to find anything which seems to be designed specifically to give the same sort of functionality that Flickr or Photobucket used to offer for free; and that plays well with forum software like SMF.

I did start to write my own, about a year ago... but time got away from me and now I've forgotten how to do it... but on the other hand, AI is way better now, so... don't hold your breath; but also, watch this space...
