Hi Krypto, thanks for your check on the taper sizes. It is a shame that Sherline has shut down so rapidly as it appears a lot of people are going to have to do without some things, it would have been nice if we had a “Last Orders” notification well before. Regards, Paul Gough.

Good news, my first order shipped with all items and if I'm lucky I'll get it on Saturday!  It appears Kat is working through the immense backlog.

The reason I want a 4 jaw scroll chuck is specifically for holding small square stock which is a pain to dial-in.  While sometimes you can hold this shape in a regular collet, you have to be careful not to get a corner of the stock stuck-in a collet slot and that will be really tough with the ER16 collets setup I will be using for the Sherline.  Obviously hex stock can be held in the 3 jaw.  For the SB I have hex and square collets but they very rare in the small WW sizes that the Sherline uses and I really don't want to get into another collet system anyway.  I do have a small independent 4 jaw chuck setup as a revolving tailstock chuck for the SB which could easily be removed and adapted, but any kind of offset work (like eccentrics) would almost certainly be done with the 6" 4 jaw chuck in the SB anyway.

The sale was yesterday but it seems they still kept a lathe and a fellow is working on producing WW collets, apparently just for existing orders, which I found interesting.

The Robotshop.com website says they have two er-16 4-jaw scroll chucks left in stock.

Those will not fit the standard sherline headstocks, just the er-16 variants. For yours with that headstock, its fine.

I forgot that Sherline offers 3C and ER16 headstock variants.  The trouble with them is as soon as you get away from the stock 3/4-16 spindle you have compatibility problems with some lathe attachments.

What I'm using is a ER16 flat back collet chuck and making a 3/4-16 adapter for it.  You just need a bit of play between the two components, tap it true and then tighten-down the bolts and it's good.  I've been using the same setup with ER32 collets for years on the SB.

The RobotShop is definitely running down on Sherline inventory.  I noticed before that many of the Sherline products were "OnDemand" but looks like they marked all of them as discontinued.

Hi Krypto, My Sherline lathe and mill are both er 16 spindle versions. Thus far I have never had any need for the Morse 1 or 3/4 headstock accessories. There are or should say WAS a number of accessories offered with the er16 thread and a few with straight shanks to fit in the collets. Only once did I think of something I might want that Sherline did not and refused to make. That was the 22mm threaded boss that secures to the adjustable right angled mount to secure chucks to it. Got one made by a friend with his little Coventry dies but as yet have never used it. One thing I am considering is converting or making an er16 spindle tail stock as I consider them superior and more accurate in holding tooling also would use up less space on my 8” lathe. One thing I have that is an alternative to Sherline is the quick change tool post and holders by Luiz Ally in Brazil, Tryally Tech. These are very nice wedge type and have not had any issues, so if Sherline ones are no longer available then there is this as an alternative. News of any “micro lathe” products or alternative suppliers would be a useful piece of information, anyone who discovers something, let everyone know. Regards, Paul Gough.

Monday the Sherline Box-O-Goodies arrived in the mail with all items present and accounted for which made me very happy.  This order had all the stuff I really need from the factory to use the lathe for my intended purposes so I'm in good shape.  I've already made a few tool posts specifically for the tooling I'm using and a rear-mount cut-off blade toolpost.  Heavy rain is is forecasted for Sunday so I'm hoping I can finish the backplate for the ER16 collet holder while I'm stuck indoors.

The order I placed just before the pause has shipped today so I imagine sometime next week they will begin taking orders again to sell what's left.

A good Sherline webpage to locally mirror is this:

https://www.sherline.com/product-information/sherline-accessory-instructions/

While I've already done that I also have the printed Accessory Guide coming in the incoming order for ease of use.  Over the years Sherline produced an amazing amount of accessories for their machines and it's nice to have all their excellent instructions in one place.

My "last" order shipped a couple days ago, short the adjustable tailstock die holder. :(

Now I have another list of stuff I want to try for.

I wonder what manufacturer this could be?  From the Sherline web page:

Important Update Regarding Sherline Products

October 20, 2026

We would like to share an encouraging development regarding the future of Sherline Products.

We are currently in discussions with an American manufacturer regarding the potential purchase of Sherline’s intellectual property and remaining inventory. The goal of this proposed acquisition is to preserve and revitalize the Sherline brand while providing continued availability of replacement parts, accessories, and machines for our valued customers.

As these discussions progress, we have agreed to temporarily suspend accepting new orders, effective October 19, 2026. This will allow us to preserve our remaining inventory while negotiations are underway.

Although no final agreement has been reached, we are hopeful that this opportunity will provide a positive path forward for the Sherline name and the customers who have trusted our products for more than five decades.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued loyalty during this transition. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available.

Our greatest hope is that the Sherline legacy of quality, precision, and American craftsmanship will continue for generations to come.

Krypto - I had not seen that new notice, thanks for posting it. Hope it all works out and Sherline equipment can continue being made in some way!  Hope whoever it is, is a good company.
