It has been quite a few years since I visited, but I believe the double Fairlie locomotives on the Ffestiniog Railway in Wales have fireholes in the side of the boiler. Two fireholes, actually, one for each boiler. They are side-by-side so the fireman can load both without moving from his position.

Its a strange old game,"I never noticed narrow gauge (except in Wales) until I saw Kozo's K-27 book about one, and now I seem to have found a new area of interest."
