    MysteryEngine

Last week the editor of our club magazine, Vectimod, dragged some of the club's display engines from the cupboard for a photoshoot. Amongst them was this engine but nobody knows who made it or what engine is being modelled.

Obviously, none of you will know who made it but does anyone recognise what the model is?

    Regards, Steve

Gavin, this is fantastic information and thank you very much for taking the time to measure everything. Wilf brought some drawings along to the club today for discussion and, when he reads this, will no doubt incorporate these numbers into his model. He might also ask you directly for clarification or additional information as he tries to make the model look as close as possible to the prototype. The drawing side of things are best left to someone who knows what they are doing.

Gavin, grateful for any dimensions you can give me but I won't be replicating the generator. It looks like this sits in a separate cabinet at the rear of the engine and I will use that space to construct some sort of direct drive, yet to be determined. The plumbing at the front will be modelled after a fashion and also the exhaust which is at the front of the engine, too.

    gjn, thanks for that.

Scale on this model is 1:11.3 (because all those years ago, a bunch of so-called "engineers" decided that 4' 8.1/2" divided by 12  equalled 5"  :facepalm2: ) so we can work within a 390mm x 139mm x 212mm envelope for the engine. Does that include the stickey-out bits on each end, can you see?

Quote from: gjnWhat dimensions do you want for the EE 6KT engine? I drive a historic shunt loco in Australia with the same power plant and may be able to help.

Length, width and height of the main block and head would be great. We can scale everything else from that.
