I have a small milling machine but recently been finding it hard to wind the head up and down after straining my arm, so I thought it time to make some assistance. I tried adding a gas strut but found it had a sticking point when you wanted to come down. so I tried using a drill motor and a speed controller powered by the original battery. this worked better than a plug in power supply. It helped that the drill motor had a round body to grip. Anyway I'm very pleased with the result.

I just thought I would share my method of making an ellipse on the lathe and the Rotary table. I like making jigs.

I just thought I would show my method of holding a flywheel on the faceplate using threaded inserts and no bolts sticking out.

There are many pieces to make the Head and they are mostly glued and some screws thru the bottom plate where they don't show.

  • Here is the Musgrove with some changes I hope make it run better, I got a heavier fly wheel as the first one was only 260grams and seemed a bit light so I bought one made of Zermak which is 700 grams and was easy to machine. Timing is tricky with this engine so I found fitting a tube to the exhaust and holding it to your ear lets you hear the valve opening.
