Looking at the first photo, a bit surprised that you had that bit of bad luck, and a nasty moment!  - the three clamps on the job look like good clamping provision. S'pose it depends on how tightly they have been done up!  Looks like you may get away with the rescue ..

Hello and welcome : a lovely county, Shropshire, and the border region generally. Any projects that you are working on presently?  Dave

The unusual engine is running very nicely in the video clip, and sounds good too.  And the appearance is transformed from the rather gunky state in which it arrived, looks like an engineering artifact now!

I did a very minimal bit of marking out with bluing and scribing yesterday while machining the three slide valves for the triple, and was thinking , not for the first time, that the sight of a component marked out in the way that they once always used to be is quite a rarity now. So your crank shows that the tradition is still there!  Dave

For Myford lathe users, and others with lathes that have flat topped bedways, a tool setting height gauge along the lines of this gadget ( another of the Geo. H. Thomas designs ) is well worth the bit of time to make up.  Will set tool height from the bed ways or from the cross slide surface, to within a thou or two, and will also scribe a centre line, useful at times. I made it long ago, and must have used it countless times ..  Dave

I've done a limited number of silver soldering jobs, certainly not a boiler which will really make inroads into the 1.5 mm sticks.  But quite a few years ago, when the cadmium bearing silver solder was phased out, I was lucky to be peering in the skip near my place of work just at the time when all the 10 stick, 600mm?,  packs of Easy-Flo no 2 that were held in the engineering store had been chucked into the skip .....!
